Day 1:

Coastal Views, Hidden Caves & Seaside Indulgence

Begin your morning with a choice between two of Torbay’s most beloved attractions.

If you’re in the mood for something charming and whimsical, visit Babbacombe Model Village, where miniature villages, tiny gardens, and delightful details create an enchanting world that can easily steal an hour or two of your day.

For something more dramatic, explore Kents Cavern, one of Britain’s most important prehistoric cave systems. Guided tours take you through spectacular rock formations and ancient chambers where humans once lived thousands of years ago.

From there, make your way to the historic Babbacombe Cliff Railway. The charming funicular railway gently carries you down the cliffside toward the sparkling waters below, offering wonderful views over Lyme Bay.

Once at the beach, turn right and follow the breathtaking South West Coast Path. The walk hugs the coastline, with dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and endless sea views accompanying you every step of the way. Keep an eye out for paddleboarders, kayakers, and seabirds gliding over the water.

Your destination is the beautiful Cary Arms & Spa, often called “the inn on the beach.” Perched right on the water’s edge, it’s one of the most romantic spots in Devon.
Enjoy a leisurely lunch on the terrace with a chilled glass of wine or a traditional pint while watching fishing boats drift across
the bay.

After lunch, treat yourselves to a spa experience. The Cary Arms Spa offers sea-view treatment rooms, massages, facials, and relaxation spaces designed to help you completely unwind. Advance reservations are highly recommended.

If you’re visiting on a Sunday, don’t miss their famous Sunday Roast, complete with perfectly roasted meats, crispy potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and all the traditional accompaniments. Be sure to book ahead.

Other local favorites in the area include Cliff Railway Café for spectacular coastal views and homemade treats, and Angels Tea Rooms, a delightful spot for afternoon tea, fresh scones, and vintage charm.

As evening approaches, take your time returning along the coast and enjoy one of Torquay’s legendary sunsets as the sky turns shades of gold, pink, and lavender.
